Fusion energy
Combined with world-class infrastructure, long-term public investment and strong industrial capability, the UK offers a compelling platform for businesses looking to invest, innovate and grow in fusion energy.
Fusion energy investment opportunities
The UK offers one of the world's most attractive environments for fusion energy investment, combining over £2.5 billion of government investment between 2025/26 and 2029/30 with world-leading research capabilities, a growing private fusion sector and a clear pathway to commercial deployment. Read about the UK government's nuclear fuel investment in this article from World Nuclear News.
At the heart of this ecosystem is the Culham Campus in Oxfordshire, home to the UK Atomic Energy Authority (UKAEA), advanced testing facilities and a cluster of world-leading companies who work collaboratively. It is also home to the UK’s first AI Growth Zone, which will host the 1.4MW mission-focused supercomputer named ‘Sunrise’. Backed by a government investment of £45 million, this will be the world’s most powerful AI supercomputer dedicated to fusion energy and will accelerate the growth of the UK fusion industry.
In Nottinghamshire, UK Fusion Energy (UKFE) is leading the charge to commercial fusion with the delivery of the prototype fusion power plant, STEP (the Spherical Tokamak for Energy Production). This project demonstrates commercial viability and accelerating growth across the country, through its partners and procurements.
From fusion start-ups and technology developers to established engineering and manufacturing businesses, companies across the UK are developing the components, systems and services needed for a future fusion industry.
