This session will outline the personal journey Helen has been through to start and manage a successful service - based business. From the idea and concept stage to the challenges of becoming and staying self-employed, Helen will share her inspirational story.

Helen Welch
Fashion Consultant and Mentor, Self-employed
Helen Welch is a fashion consultant and mentor based in Cheshire, with 20 years' experience designing collections across activewear, swimwear, ski and lifestyle categories.
Her career began in-house, with Baird Clothing - a M&S supplier, Diadora, Elle Sport designing their sport, swim and lifestyle collections. At Sweaty Betty, as Head of Design she worked alongside the founder to shape the brand's now-iconic 'strong feminine' aesthetic. During this time Helen started her own service-based consultancy.
Since then, she has worked with brands including Castore, JD Sports, MyProtein, Footasylum, and start-ups such as Emello and Silou, helping them define brand DNA, develop product, source innovative fabrics and grow commercially. She holds an MSc by Research in Fashion and Textiles from the University of Manchester and continues to mentor the next generation of designers at Manchester Metropolitan University.
