Tuesday 14 July at 2:00PM

Get a clear, end-to-end shipment and compliance checklist—and the confidence to manage logistics professionally, align with regulatory requirements, and deliver on commercial commitments.

What you’ll learn

  • Understand how Incoterms® shape responsibilities, costs, and risk—and how to apply them effectively in real shipping scenarios with India buyers
  • Identify the key export documentation and HMRC compliance requirements, including authentication and registration needed to complete origin declarations
  • Gain confidence in coordinating logistics and compliance (with freight forwarders and HMRC) to ensure smooth customs clearance and timely delivery

Description

Once a deal is agreed, delivery becomes the next critical test—where operational execution, compliance, and documentation must come together seamlessly. This session demystifies the practical realities of shipping goods to India, helping UK exporters avoid costly errors, delays, and disputes.

We begin with a clear explanation of Incoterms® 2020 and why choosing the wrong term can shift risk, cost, and responsibility in unexpected ways. With input from Freight Agency Limited, participants will learn how Incoterms operate in real shipping scenarios, which terms are typically safer for new exporters, and how to align them with contracts, pricing, and payment terms to ensure smooth delivery.

The session then moves into UK export formalities and the operational journey of goods leaving the UK. Freight Agency Limited will guide exporters through the end-to-end shipping process. Building on this, HMRC will provide a critical compliance perspective, focusing on the requirements exporters must meet before goods can move. This includes an overview of export declarations and the UK customs framework, as well as the essential authentication and registration process for traders intending to complete origin declarations when exporting to India. Exporters will learn why registration with HMRC is a necessary pre-condition for using preferential origin rules, how this links to their EORI registration, and how HMRC shares origin data with overseas customs authorities to support verification and reduce the risk of challenges or delays at the border.

Participants will understand how compliance and logistics intersect, and how strong coordination between exporter, carrier, and authorities helps goods move predictably through customs.

By the end of the session, exporters will have a clear, end-to-end shipment and compliance checklist—and the confidence to manage logistics professionally, align with regulatory requirements, and deliver on their commercial commitments.
