Beyond Singles’ Day: How UK businesses can navigate China’s B2B market

Wednesday 11 November at 2:00PM

Every 11 November, China’s Singles’ Day puts the scale and sophistication of the country’s consumer market in the global spotlight. But for many UK businesses, the real opportunity in China lies beyond consumer e-commerce.

What you’ll learn

  • Understand why China should be approached as a collection of sector, buyer, channel and regional markets rather than as one single market.
  • Define the target buyer before choosing a route to market.
  • Compare the principal B2B routes to market, including direct export, distributors, agents, local commercial partners, digital B2B channels and deeper local presence.
  • Assess potential distributors and commercial partners more systematically.
  • Understand how overseas suppliers are discovered, evaluated and trusted by business buyers.
  • Use a staged market-testing approach before scaling investment.

Description

Timed to coincide with Singles’ Day and International Trade Week, this practical session will focus on China as a business market - exploring how UK companies can identify, reach and work with importers, distributors, commercial partners, manufacturers, retailers and corporate buyers.

The webinar will examine the main B2B routes to market, including direct export, distributors and agents, local partnerships, digital B2B channels and cross-border models. It will also look at how Chinese business buyers discover and assess overseas suppliers, what they need to see before engaging, and how UK companies can improve their commercial visibility, credibility and readiness.

Particular attention will be given to practical questions facing UK SMEs: how to define the right customer, identify suitable partners, evaluate distributors, understand channel structures, generate qualified B2B leads and test market demand before committing significant resources.

Drawing on practical experience working between the UK and China, the session is designed to help businesses move beyond the question of “how to sell into China” and towards a more focused question: Who is the right buyer, partner or channel - and how can a UK business reach them?
