Company outline

SSE is a UK-based multinational energy company with a strategy focused on delivering the low-carbon infrastructure needed to deliver net zero emissions. SSE develops, owns and operates energy infrastructure in its home markets, the UK and Ireland, and is now expanding its renewables business, SSE Renewables, through the development of offshore wind projects across Europe and Asia Pacific (APAC).

SSE Renewables has decades of experience in offshore wind, onshore wind and hydro. Now expanding into solar, batteries and green hydrogen, it is well established in the development, construction and operation of renewable energy projects.

In Japan, SSE Renewables is involved in offshore wind via its joint ownership company SSE Pacifico, founded in partnership with Pacifico Energy in 2021. It is headquartered in Tokyo.

Industry track record

SSE Renewables has over 20 years of experience in offshore wind. Its portfolio of offshore wind projects is made up of more than:

  • 2 GW of operational assets in the UK, including Beatrice, Greater Gabbard and Seagreen offshore wind farms, all of which are joint ventures
  • 3 GW in construction at Dogger Bank, a joint venture with Equinor and Vårgrønn, which will be the largest offshore wind project in the world when completed
  • 9 GW of secured offshore wind development pipeline in the UK and Ireland, including the Ossian floating project and the Berwick Bank project

SSE Pacifico is progressing a 6 GW portfolio of offshore wind early development opportunities across Japan, including both fixed-bottom and floating projects.
