Company Outline

Shell is a global group of energy and petrochemical companies present in more than 70 countries. The company’s Powering Progress strategy supports Shell’s purpose of providing more and cleaner energy solutions, with the aim of profitably transforming Shell into a net-zero emissions energy business by 2050.

Shell is building a global integrated power business spanning electricity generation, trading, and supply. It sees offshore wind as a critical means to achieving its company strategy and aims to invest in the development, construction, and operation of offshore wind projects.

Through its dedicated entity Shell Energy Japan, Shell plays a part in the development of a more sustainable and self-sufficient energy mix in Japan. As one of Japan’s largest suppliers of Liquified Natural Gas (LNG), Shell is actively supporting the decarbonisation of the LNG value chain. In offshore wind, it is positioning itself to contribute to the development of projects in the country.

Industry track record

Shell’s expertise as a developer is supported by more than 100 years of global energy market experience, 50 years of deepwater offshore and 20 years of wind development.

Shell has more than 2.2 gigawatts (GW) (Shell equity share) of offshore wind capacity in operation or under construction across Europe and North America. Shell’s project pipeline ranges from conventional bottom fixed developments to floating offshore wind, and from wind-power to hydrogen developments to multitechnology projects combining offshore wind with floating solar and batteries.

In the UK, Shell and ScottishPower are developing a total capacity of 5 GW, through the MarramWind and CampionWind projects off the east and northeast coast of Scotland. These projects could bring clean energy to power the equivalent of six million homes.
