bp is a global integrated energy company with a purpose to reimagine energy for people and our planet. Its offshore wind team aims to be a global leader in the sector, safely building and operating a pipeline of offshore wind projects.

bp has operated in Japan for over 60 years. It supports Japan’s economy and energy security through its upstream and trading businesses which supply petroleum feedstocks, Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) and petroleum products to the country.

bp has partnered with respected companies in APAC including:

• Marubeni in Japan, which is the majority shareholder in the Akita Noshiro 140 MW offshore wind project
• Deep Wind Offshore in South Korea, which purchased a stake in a portfolio of 4 projects with a combined capacity of 6 GW

bp owns the Castrol brand which has over 30 years of experience offering gear oils and corrosion preventives to wind farms. Through a Castrol joint venture, bp’s Castrol owns Onyx Insights which provides wind farm optimisation and Operating Expenditures (OPEX) reduction software solutions.

Industry track record

bp’s portfolio of offshore wind projects is made of:

• 4 GW in development in Germany, with 2 sites in the North Sea
• 6 GW in development in the UK, including the Mona, Morgan and Morven fixed-bottom projects, in joint ventures with EnBW, and Flora, a floating demonstration project
• 2.5 GW in development in the USA, with the Beacon Wind project
