Founded in 1999, Maritime Developments (MDL) provides consultancy, equipment and personnel packages to energy industries. It specialises in engineering design, custom-built equipment and customised flexible installation (flexlay) packages of equipment and services for floating assets and onshore facilities. MDL also supports equipment life-extension services, installation and replacement of cables and moorings, production facility upgrades, quayside handling and temporary vessel conversions.

For the Offshore Wind industry, MDL provides:

• Development and project management support for handling of cables and mooring lines, including FEED design studies, consultancy and concept design
• Flexlay equipment and packages, including for cable lay, mooring, transpooling and decommissioning
• New custom-built equipment, including deck winches and ancillary products, reel drive systems, turntables and vertical and horizontal lay systems
• Asset maintenance, including gap analysis, inspection and testing of equipment and in-situ repairs

MDL is recognised for its innovation in flexlay technology to enable global lay and retrieval projects, for which it has earned the Queen’s Award for Enterprise 2022 and King's Award for Enterprise 2024 in international trade. It offers bespoke solutions, including the conversion of vessels to support offshore wind developments.

Industry track record

MDL has provided transpooling services for DEME in the replacement of a damaged array cable at Thorntonbank offshore wind project in Belgium. The work involved transpooling array cables between shore and vessel using MDL’s portable flexlay equipment and expert field service personnel.
