Clean Energy Industries
The UK's clean energy sector is growing three times faster than the wider economy — and the government is backing it to go further.
With record offshore wind capacity secured, the first small modular reactor site selected, and billions committed to new nuclear and carbon capture, clean energy is already creating jobs and opportunity in every corner of the UK.
The Clean Energy Industries Sector Plan sets out how we are backing British industry: accelerating grid connections, growing supply chains across all four nations, training the next generation of clean energy workers and removing barriers so that UK businesses can invest, build and export to the world.
What this means in practice:
- The Great British Energy - Nuclear small modular reactor project, has been provided with over £2.5bn of funding and has been sited at Wylfa in Anglesey, with 3,000 on-site jobs anticipated at peak construction, and thousands more across the UK supply chain
- A record £3.4 billion offshore wind auction is driving the construction of new factories, ports and supply chains, with up to £1.1 billion for projects in Scotland.
- Awel Y Môr has become the first Welsh offshore wind project to win a Contract for Difference in a decade, part of a record 8.4GW of capacity secured across the UK — Europe's biggest ever offshore wind auction.
- £1bn “Energy, Engineered in the UK” programme from Great British Energy (GBE) to grow supply chains and create 10,000 jobs by 2030 has begun.
These are not one-off decisions. They are part of a long-term plan — giving clean energy businesses the confidence to invest, hire and grow.
