Description
Since 1998, the stationary groundwater purification plant (GWRA) in the area of the groundwater damage of the
former "August Bebel" coking plant has been in continuous operation.
The groundwater is purified by means of a "funnel and gate" "pump&treat" process using catalytic oxidation
and reinjection of the purified water into the remediation area using the basic principle of a purification cycle.
For this purpose, contaminated groundwater is lifted from 4 extraction wells at the angle of a steel sheet pile wall and
after purification in the groundwater purification plant, it is filtered back into 8 absorption wells in the inflow.
In 2021 and 2022, extensive investigations were carried out into the hydraulic adaptation of the groundwater remediation under
conducted by the GFI Groundwater Consulting Institute from Dresden.
As a conclusion and recommendation, absorption well 9 on the south wing of the sheet pile wall is to be converted into a production well.
To this end, the current extraction well 4 is to be decommissioned and the pump set and the existing control and instrumentation technology used for the new extraction well 5 (FB 5).
