Description
The primary purpose of this project is to increase riparian slope stability, and reduce risk of infrastructural damage, throughout Wanuskewin Heritage Park’s owned and managed section of the Opimihaw Creek through use of native plant propagules. Due to increasing Beaver activity within the Opimihaw Creek, numerous riparian riverbanks throughout the Wanuskewin Heritage Park have been degraded through a combination of increasing water levels, wildlife-caused vegetation removal, and subsequent drainage to avoid flooding risk. As such Wanuskewin is seeking proposals from interest bidders that would:
i. Increase the vegetation cover of recently exposed riverbanks adjacent to the Opimihaw Creek
ii. Reduce risk of infrastructural damage arising from slope instability in key locations throughout the Wanuskewin Heritage Park through common techniques such as live-staking
iii. Increase the density and availability of woody-material throughout riparian habitats of Wanuskewin Heritage Park, and
iv. Explicitly use native riparian graminoid, forb, shrub and tree species for revegetation.
Additionally, Wanuskewin wishes to incorporate aspects of this project into a publically available volunteer activity, to both assist with the riparian revegetation and provide educational experiences for Wanuskewin’s guests and volunteers. Bidders would be responsible for the development of the workshop/event, provide all necessary tools/equipment/vegetation, and ensure the safety of all event participants that include local-harvesting of plant propagules for the purpose of this project.
