Description
The site of the University Hospital Bonn (UKB) extends over a total area of approx. 43 hectares on the Venusberg. In the south of the campus, the new NPP and DZNE buildings, the existing neurosurgery and epileptology buildings as well as the Life&Brain and Building 75 (laboratory building including animal husbandry) characterize the neuroscience focus. The neuroscience focus, together with the immunology focus, has developed into a formative focus of the University of Bonn. Together with the German Center for Neurodegenerative Diseases in the Helmholtz Association (DZNE) and the new neuroscientific focus of the caesar research center in the Max Planck Society, the neuroscience focus is developing into a location of international importance. the current building structure of the University Hospital Bonn must be restructured in terms of operational organization. In particular, the division into several, sometimes distant locations and the pavilion structure on the Venusberg pose the following problems, among others: uneconomical duplication of necessary infrastructure, long distances and high transportation volumes as well as uneconomical small units due to the given building structure. Due to this structure, it is not possible to present or adapt processes more efficiently. A viable concept in the form of a master plan was therefore developed to make Bonn University Hospital competitive and fit for the future. The master plan is updated annually and adapted to new findings, and the implementation of the NPP project (neurology, psychiatry and palliative medicine) thus represents a key milestone in achieving the centralization of hospital operations on the Venusberg campus envisaged in the master plan. Essential patient care functions (wards, outpatient clinics, etc.) from the existing neurology building (Building 082) will now be housed in the new NPP building mentioned above, freeing up large areas in the existing building. The subsequent use of this space, which will be created after a general refurbishment and various conversions, is the subject of the planning service to be awarded here. In contrast to the structural and scientific development of the neuroscientific focus, the space situation in the scientific-theoretical area has not developed congruently. In the new NPP building, space is only available for patient-oriented research. However, since space is also urgently needed for scientific research, the planning of the subsequent use of building 082 is to be provided largely for laboratory space.General description of the requirements for the planning contract for the conversion services in the building complex of buildings 81 and 82:The Neurozentrum building complex emerged from a competition at the end of the 1950s. The so-called Nervenklinik (today Neurology, Building 82) was realized as the first construction phase of the competition result in 1965. Neurosurgery (Building 81) was realized in this competition as the second construction phase in 1971, so that the former premises in the Wilhelmstrasse building (urban area) could be vacated. The building structure of both buildings means that many rooms are interior and therefore not lit by daylight (limited workplace conditions). There are direct structural connections between the two buildings on the ground floor and first floor. The only lecture hall (190 seats) in the complex, which extends from the ground floor to the first floor, is located in the area adjoining neurology and neurosurgery. It has its own entrance and can also be accessed internally. In the course of strengthening research, parts of the basement of the Neuro/Nerve Center (Building 82) were converted into laboratories. As part of the "NPP extension" project, some of these areas were affected. Numerous laboratories cannot be used as they were previously, either because the rooms have lost their daylight or because they had to be upgraded as replacement space. In the course of the "Subsequent use of the Neurocenter" project, mainly areas of buildings 81 (neurosurgery) and 82 (psychiatry/neurology) are being considered. In the latter in particular, larger areas will be freed up on completion of the NPP, which will enable structural reorganization and cover acute space requirements. The aim is to cover the proven need for (research) space under the premise of consolidating the partially scattered areas and converting as little space as possible, with the aluminum window system initially being commissioned as part of an open procedure.
