The city of Steinfurt plans to redesign the square at the monument of the Jewish memorial / former synagogue of the Jewish community Steinfurt at the Kautenstege.The existing memorial remains in size and design. The current parking lot use of the adjacent, L-shaped square will be abandoned and developed into a public meeting place with a new design. For this purpose, the existing concrete block paving of the current parking lot will be taken up and disposed of. The 3-sided perimeter fence to the memorial with bar fence and curbs Memorial Square will be removed and replaced by an enclosure hedge of yew trees.The 2-sided L-shaped square around the memorial with a size of about 360 m² will be repaved with large-format concrete paving slabs (80 x 40cm) in natural stone look. The paving surface will be bordered by a continuous band of these slabs in a concrete bedding. In the center of the square a large-crowned tree (styphnolobium japonicum) will be planted. The tree will receive a tree supply system in the ground for climate safe growth. This can store up to over 3000 liters of water in a multifunctional water reservoir, which is used for tree irrigation when needed. Surface water from the entire plaza is directed into the reservoir through freefall of the pavement. A bench-table-bench combination made of robust, weather-resistant steel will be placed under the tree. To the east, the new square is demarcated along Kautenstege Street by the city bollards and kept free of motor vehicle traffic. To the south, the L-shaped square encloses the Jewish memorial on two sides and is closed off to the west by a garden wall. In the north, the square is bordered by a privet hedge in front of No. 10 and continuing to the street Kautenstege.Further information can be found in the tender documents, in particular in the specifications.
