Description

IWU -Geothermal use of the urban subsoil, sub-project of the overall project "Integrierte WärmeWende Wilhelmsburg" (IW3), sub-trade drilling rig.
Project descriptionBackground:Geothermie Wilhelmsburg GmbH (GTW) is planning the construction of a drilling duplicate for the extraction of geothermal energy from water-bearing Rhaetian sandstones at a depth of approx. 3,600 m on a site owned by the Hamburg Port Authority (HPA) at the Alte Schleuse/Schlengendeich in 21107 Hamburg (Wilhelmsburg). The project is part of the overall project IW3 "Integrierte Wärmewende Wilhelmsburg" (Integrated Heat Turnaround Wilhelmsburg), which is one of the real laboratories of the energy turnaround and is funded by the BMWi (Project Management Jülich), sub-project "IWu: Geothermal Use of the Urban Subsoil". Funding is provided through environmental aid (IWU-UWB) and within the framework of an R&D project (IWU-FuE). Project support is provided by the Project Management Organisation Jülich (PTJ), and the construction and operation of a geothermal plant is a central component of the sub-project "IWu: Geothermal Utilisation of the Urban Subsoil". With this plant geothermal energy is to be won in the future from a thermal water deposit in approximately 3 600 meters depth and fed into the local heating net By the Geothermieprojekt Wilhelmsburg several 10er meters thick sandstone series of the upper R?th (upper Keuper) in depths between 3 380-3 580 m are to be opened and used. The reservoir will be developed via a doublet well consisting of a deviated production well and a vertical infiltration well. The vertical well will be drilled first. After a discovery test, the second, deviated well is sunk. The two wells will be about 10 m apart at the surface and about 1,200 m apart at the reservoir depth. Scientific supportThe R&D project is intended to provide scientific support for the wells. The well will be drilled under the sole responsibility of the GTW in accordance with mining law. ScheduleThe drilling work for the infiltration well is to begin in the 2nd quarter of 2021 at the latest and be completed by the end of the 3rd quarter of 2021. The drilling work for the production well is to begin in the 4th quarter of 2021 and end in the 1st quarter of 2022.
