Description
As part of package 1 of the Hamburg node project, various measures have been defined for the Harburg ? Maschen area have been defined. The Hamburg Meckelfeld junction project is part of the Federal Transport Infrastructure Plan (BVWP) 2030 as a sub-measure of the Hamburg junction.
In the Meckelfeld area, the railroad infrastructure currently has 6 tracks, 2 tracks each for
Line 1720 (Lehrte ? Cuxhaven); high-speed line, mainly passenger traffic
-Line 1255 (Maschen Rbf ? Hamburg Süd); mainly freight traffic to/from the port of Hamburg
Line 1280 (Buchholz ? Maschen Rbf ? Hamburg); so-called freight bypass line,
mainly freight traffic to/from the north/Scandinavia.
The tracks swivel and cross here, among other things to connect the two freight lines to the Maschen marshalling yard (Rbf).
As early as the 1990s, the construction of the Rönneburg viaduct partially unbundled freight traffic on lines 1280 and 1255 with line 1720 (long-distance and local passenger traffic). Nevertheless, the line changes from/to Maschen Rbf and from/to the western or eastern bypass track Maschen (line 1280) in the Meckelfeld area take place at the same level.
The aim of measure 2 is to resolve these crossing conflicts and thereby increase capacity on these sections of track. To this end, the construction of two new tracks from the Maschen station and the extension of the existing Rönneburg flyover structure are planned. This will enable simultaneous entry/exit to/from Maschen Rbf and the bypassing of Maschen Rbf. In preparation for the 1-year total closure of line 1280 in Meckelfeld, a transfer connection from line 1280 to line 1720 in the area of Harburg station must be created to the north in order to mitigate the operational consequences of this line closure. A transfer between lines 1720 and 1280 is possible at the southern end of Harburg station. However, due to a lack of points connections, there is an approx. 1 km long single-track section. During the line closure between Harburg and Meckelfeld, all trains must be transferred from line 1280 to line 1720 at the southern end of Harburg station. A transfer in the northern terminus would be possible in terms of the route, but is ruled out in most cases due to the heavy occupancy of the platforms. The existing single track in the transfer in the southern head has a detrimental effect on the line capacity. To eliminate this bottleneck, new points are to be installed in the southern end of Harburg station for the transfer from line 1720-1 to line 1280-1. The new points will enable a simultaneous transfer from line 1720-1 to line 1280-1 and from line 1280-2 to line 1720-2 in the southern terminus. In addition, the transfer in the northern terminus and thus the passage through the heavily used platforms can be avoided.
