Pike and San Isabel National Forests Recreation Concession Opportunity
Pueblo, CO, June 5, 2019 - The Pike and San Isabel National Forests, (PSI) have issued a prospectus for the operation of their campgrounds, picnic areas, group sites, and other recreation areas.

The PSI is considered an "Urban National Forest," located in south central Colorado, covering 2,355,299 acres, and includes 6 Ranger Districts. Annually the Forests see approximately 5,000,000 recreation visits. The PSI includes the Sangre De Cristos, Spanish Peaks, Mosquito Range, Wet Mountains, Collegiate Peaks, the Rampart Range, two ski area, and the Arkansas and South Platte Rivers. There are 29-14,000 foot or 14'er peaks. Over 2,000,000 Coloradans reside within an hour's drive of the Forest. I-25, I-70, Hwy 285 and Hwy 50 make the Forest easily accessible.
Since 1993 recreation facilities on the PSI have been operated by concessionaires under special use permits. The two current permits are expiring on December 31, 2019. The new permit(s) will include the operation of 89 campgrounds, 25 picnic areas, and 8 group facilities along with their associated picnic tables, fire grates, water systems, toilets, fee stations or other amenities. The prospectus will allow interested proponents the opportunity to propose additional services such as firewood sales, boat, bicycle or camping equipment rentals, to make visiting the PSI a more fulfilling experience for visitors as well as an economically viable operation for the permittee(s).

Responses are due by the close of business on July 26, 2019.
A show-me-trip will be conducted the week of June 17-21, 2019, to allow prospective bidders the opportunity to see the various facilities, before responses are due. The schedule and itinerary will be posted to the website shown above, when it is developed.
An evaluation by a Forest Service panel and the SBDC will follow. A selection(s) will take place as soon as August 2019. The new permit(s) would be effective January 1, 2020.
