Description
The purpose of this project is to replace high priority electrical equipment which has far exceeded its expected useful life at University Hospital of Northern BC (UHN). In 2024, Northern Health had a UHN Electrical Switchgear Assessment of the existing infrastructure which identified priority replacements of equipment within Electrical Rooms 1 and 6 (E1 and E6), as well as a transfer switch.E1 and E6 are critical to patient care and facility operation. E1 powers several floors of UHN covering most of the center wing of the hospital, which includes but is not limited to the following departments: Lab, Emergency, Hemodialysis, PCMU, Sterile Processing Department (SPD), Psychiatry, Laundry, mechanical loads and others not listed. E6 powers medical imaging 1st floor, Operating Rooms (OR), Laundry, Morgue, SPD,Nuclear Medicine and much of the mechanical loads at UHN (heating, cooling, and exhaust) and others not listed. The transfer switch scope would have impacts to all critical medical imaging equipment including but not limited to: CTs, and MRIs. It is paramount that the design considers how to minimize operational impacts and includes temporary conditions to allow the facility to remain operational.
