Description
The City of Mississauga, one of Canada’s largest and most diverse cities, continues to experience rapid growth and transformation. With its strategic location near Toronto Pearson International Airport and major transportation hubs, Mississauga is a vibrant center for commerce, culture, and innovation. At the heart of Mississauga is the Downtown Centre, a bustling area that serves as a nexus for cultural, commercial, and residential activity. Among its key assets, the Living Arts Centre (LAC) stands as a cultural landmark that has served the community for decades.Mississauga is a prime business destination, home to over 50,000 businesses and 1,400 multinational firms. Notably, 77 U.S. Fortune 500 companies and 66 Global Fortune 500 corporations have established their Canadian headquarters in the city. Mississauga boasts the second-largest economy in Ontario, with a GDP of $61 billion. Over 73% of the workforce holds post-secondary qualifications, supported by two globally recognized post-secondary institutions located in the city and 32 additional institutions within a one-hour commute. The city is also home to Toronto Pearson International Airport, Canada's largest airport, which serves over 50 million passengers annually. To build on Mississauga's city-building goals, the City envisions redeveloping the Living Arts Centre site into a multi-functional destination with integrated spaces for the arts, hospitality, and events. This Request for Expression of Interest (RFEI) invites parties to submit their interest in partnering with the City to reimagine the Living Arts Centre lands as a cultural and business hub that includes a state-of-the-art convention/conference center and a hotel—enhancing Mississauga’s capacity to attract local, national, and international events, while supporting its thriving cultural community.  Information gathered during the RFEI process will help inform the City on how to use the LAC building and the surrounding lands for a hotel and convention/conference centre.
