Description

New construction of lecture hall, seminar and library building for the medical faculty - additional equipment Skills Labs/SIM-Hospital.
In addition to the practical learning of a surgical intervention on a patient, it is a basic principle that an extensive theoretical training with operation teachings (textbooks and video material), as well as practical experience by assistants during surgical interventions must take place beforehand. However, these cannot replace the active performance of an operation. The latest generation of surgical simulators is now characterized by the fact that they not only produce excellent image quality (comparable to the clinical situation in the operating room), but also convey tactile information and thus imitate a very realistic situation. In order to further promote the performance of the working groups for the development, standardisation and dissemination of minimally invasive surgery, a simulator workstation for minimally invasive surgery, which also conveys tactile information and thus imitates a very realistic situation for learning the techniques, will be procured within the scope of this call. Two virtual simulation systems for arthroscopic surgery based on a PC with virtual training contents and complete procedures as well as a haptic artificial joint will be procured. One simulator will be used for knee atroscopy, the second for shoulder atroscopy. The simulation system must also be modular for different joints and must be expandable with new training content in the future. Since the simulation system is to be used in future for training in knee atroscopy, shoulder arthroscopy, hip arthroscopy, ankle arthroscopy and hysteroscopy, it must be possible to expand the system with these contents. The training modules must already be available on the market at the time of procurement and must not be in the development stage. At Saarland University, a Skills Lab is to be built in the new central lecture hall building to provide students with in-depth training in clinically relevant knowledge (anatomical structures; examinations). In addition, this should be able to be carried out in the Skills Lab on a virtual dissection table. At the Homburg Emergency Training and Simulator Center, medical students will practice using simulators of various ages to perform invasive medical procedures and apply algorithms for various clinical pictures. Skills training as well as training courses focusing on the teaching of crew resource management contents are carried out. Many of the courses are long established and have excellent teaching evaluations. With the move to the new lecture hall building, this branch of medical training is to be offered even more intensively and included in the curriculum. In modern medicine, differentiated ultrasound diagnostics and point-of-care ultrasound diagnostics are becoming increasingly important in emergencies. Against this background, the training of future doctors using simulation is particularly essential. An ultrasound simulator should be acquired which allows the training of as many specialties as possible (such as anesthesia, internal medicine and gynecology). At the Emergency Training and Simulator Center Homburg, medical students practice on simulators of different age groups to perform invasive medical procedures and apply algorithms for different clinical pictures. Skills training as well as training courses focusing on the teaching of crew resource management contents are carried out. Many of the courses are long established and are excellently evaluated in the teaching evaluations. With the move to the new lecture hall building, this branch of medical training should be offered even more intensively and included in the curriculum. At least one corresponding simulator or simulators should be available for all age groups and patient collectives. At Saarland University, a Skills Lab/SIM Hospital is to be built in the new central lecture hall building in order to offer students in-depth training in clinically relevant knowledge (anatomical structures; examinations, etc.) The examination using sonography/echocardiography plays an important role in medical diagnostics, which requires thorough and systematic training of the users. In order to offer practical training on ultrasound to a larger number of students, a Peer-Assisted Learning Concept (PAL) for ultrasound training in student teaching was established in the summer semester 2015. The ultrasound course is being continuously expanded and is enjoying increasing interest among students. Based on this concept, in which the basics of abdominal and echocardiography are taught, other aspects of organ ultrasound (ultrasound in pregnant women, e.g. fetometry) are taught in cooperation with other clinics in extended and advanced courses.
