Description
Madagascar is one of the poorest countries in the world. The consequences of the COVID-19 crisis pushed the poverty rate to a new record in 2020. According to the INSTAT study, confirmed by that of the World Bank, 81% of the population lived on less than USD 1.90 a day. Decentralization and the strengthening of communities is an important tool in the fight against poverty. The German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) supports the Malagasy government in the process of municipal development and decentralization within the framework of the project "Poverty-oriented municipal development and decentralization (ProDéCID)", which is implemented by the Gesellschaft für internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ). The project runs from 01.01.2023 to 30.4.2027 and has the following outputs: 1) Transparent local financial management,2) Exchange & learning for efficient local good governance, 3) Social and political participation, 4) Inclusive, poverty-oriented urban development of "Grand Tana", 5) Support for civil society.
