Description
The JAMES Plant secondary treatment process includes two rectangular trickling filters (TFs). The TFs are above-ground concrete structures that contain plastic media over which wastewater is distributed. Dissolved organics are absorbed on biomass that grows on the media, and particles are filtered out or trapped. TF 2 is segmented into three cells, and each can be removed from service independently. TF 1 had its media replaced over the past 5 years. Currently the City is undertaking the replacement of TF 2 media, with one cell expected to be replaced each year over the next few years. The scope of services for this project involves the removal and replacement of the media in Cell 7 (west cell of TF 2), and repair of concrete and steel as determined by the Engineer. The City has purchased replacement media for Cell 7 and it will be supplied to the Contractor. The Contractor will be responsible for offloading and storing the media as well as co-ordinating delivery schedules with the media supplier.
