Description
In future, software systems for rail applications will increasingly consist of components that use artificial intelligence (AI). This concerns applications in the area of driverless driving (GoA3+), digital and data-based maintenance (PM), for example by means of predictive maintenance strategies (PM), but also tasks in the areas of capacity management such as train path allocation, timetabling or dispatching as well as security. The use of software in railroad operations, which are considered AI systems under the AI Act, is still the subject of research with regard to safety verification. Although applicable standards such as EN 50129:2019, EN 50716:2023, IEC 62279 and IEC 61508 exist for software development, there is still a lack of scientific knowledge and experience to support the approval of AI systems in particular.
