Description

Galileo Second Generation Satellites Batch 1 are designed to embark units (RMU) in charge of monitoring the radiation environment. The Galileo RMU will monitor and characterise the total ionising dose, electron, proton, heavy ion and charging levels over solar cycles. The RMU will operate at the Galileo Medium Earth Orbit orbits (MEO: 23 222 km altitude) which are crossing the Earth’s outer radiation belt with very high energy electrons. The Galileo RMU will measure the charged particles in a wide range of energy, i.e. [100 Kev-7 Mev] for electrons, [2-200 Mev] for protons, [0,1-10 Mev cm2/mg] for heavy ions. The RMU flight models (FM) will have to be designed to cope with the MEO environment and with an operational lifetime of 15 years. The activity covers the design, manufacturing and delivery of 6x RMU FM and 2x RMU engineering models. An option is included for the delivery of four additional recurring RMU FM.
See under II.1.4).
