Description
CHI at Temple Street is seeking a POCT Blood Glucose and Blood ketone solution with the provision meters that are suitable for use in a paediatric hospital setting. Meters will be used in children of all ages, including neonates and critically ill patients. CHI at Temple Street will consider either a combined meter for blood glucose and ketones or separate meters. A combined meter is preferable, only if the performance and technical requirements as outlined are acceptable. It is anticipated that 25 meters will be placed into active use and 5 held in reserve to be used as immediate replacement for faulty meters.
Point of care Testing (POCT) for Blood glucose and Blood ketones is currently delivered via 26 meters in use across the site including ED, ICU, Inpatient Wards and Outpatient Clinics.
These meters are not connected to any IT system and there is no POCT middleware in place. The LIS system in operation is iLAB version 5.8.1002. Patient results are recorded using manual recording methods directly to the patient chart. At a laboratory level there is no visibility of patient results, IQC records or IQC compliance. There is a manual system in place for the delivery, performance and return of EQA samples. The EQA results are submitted and reviewed by the laboratory staff.
The usage figures for 2018 are as follows:
1. Glucose strips - 48,400 strips
2. Ketone strips - 18970 strips
In addition, CHI at Temple Street is seeking a POCT middleware system for the electronic management of the proposed meters. The POCT middleware solution must allow for the management of:
• General device management
• Operator device access (including automatic operator QC lock out)
• Patient results
• IQC
• EQA
• Training and competency
The hospital will not consider a closed POCT middleware system as it is envisaged that additional devices/analysers will be integrated to the POCmiddleware solution. The POCT devices currently in use are listed in the RFT documentation.
