Description
The Fraunhofer Institute for Mechanics of Materials IWM is an independent institute of the Fraunhofer-Gesellschaft. It employs around 300 people at its sites in Freiburg and Karlsruhe Mikro Tribologie Centrum μTC (20 MA), Baden-Württemberg.The Fraunhofer Institute IWM develops solutions to optimally adjust the properties of materials and components to the loads that occur and to fully exploit their performance. To this end, the behavior of materials under technology- or application-related mechanical, thermal, chemical and electrical loads is analyzed and researched. Mechanisms occurring at the atomic, microstructural or macroscopic level in materials are elucidated, evaluated and simulated. The clients and research partners of the Fraunhofer IWM Micro Tribology Center μTC benefit from increased reliability, safety, service life and functionality of their components and systems, improved quality and yield in manufacturing, as well as increased material and energy efficiency, and thus obtain more economical processes and cost reductions.Further information can be found at: https://www.iwm.fraunhofer.de/de/ueber-uns.html
