Description

The Heinrich Hertz Tower in Hamburg, approx. 275 metres high, is owned by DFMG and was built between 1966 and 1968. It belongs to the historically significant building type of television tower, which - beyond its purely technical function - has a viewing pulpit for the public on the 13th and 14th floors. The type of building is based on the idea of giving the population a distant view of their city and to experience its development in the post-war period from a bird's eye view. The operation of the lookout pulpit was stopped in 2001. Since 2013, the television tower has been a listed building in the Free and Hanseatic City of Hamburg, partly due to its importance in terms of architectural history, culture and urban development. Before it can be used again, it must be structurally adapted to the current state of the art. The Heinrich Hertz Tower is a listed building. In 2015 feasibility studies (building construction and building services) were carried out by the offices of WTM Engineers and RMN Ingenieure GmbH with the aim of creating an operator for a viewpoint and restaurant use for up to 700,000 visitors per year. It is also planned to erect an entrance building on the forecourt of the fair. The feasibility studies will be made available to bidders as part of the invitation to tender. The reopening of the viewing pulpit of the Heinrich Hertz Tower to the public is subject to the approval of subsidies by the Federal Government and the Free and Hanseatic City of Hamburg. Further implementation of the project is only planned following a positive decision by the Federal Government and the Free and Hanseatic City of Hamburg. The project budget is currently set at EUR 26 million gross for the cost groups 200-700.
