Company Outline
Founded in 1760, Lloyd’s Register is a global provider of engineering and professional services. Initially specialised in the maritime industry, it has since expanded into other markets, including offshore renewable energy.
Lloyd’s Register has been involved in offshore wind projects for over a decade. It offers assurance and compliance services, from the concept phase up to commissioning, and onwards into operations and decommissioning. Lloyd’s Register is also one of the few certification bodies that can offer certification services to offshore wind projects.
Having worked on a variety of offshore wind projects worldwide, Lloyd’s Register has the experience required to provide confidence that designs are compliant with agreed standards. It will identify compliance gaps in design and, when necessary, go beyond minimum code requirements to ensure successful project delivery and long-term operation.
Industry track record
Lloyd’s Register has been involved in over 20 GW of renewable energy projects and is the first certification body to be accepted by the International Electrotechnical Commission for Renewable Energy to assess offshore wind and marine energy converters.
Lloyd’s Register’s offshore wind track record includes:
- project certification services for Borsselle 3 and 4 in the Netherlands, East Anglia 1 in the UK, Saint-Brieuc in France and Formosa 2 in Taiwan
- design verification of the hull and mooring for IDEOL’s first floating offshore wind turbine demonstrator off the coast of Le Croisic, France
- offshore substation services for Borwin 3 and Dolwin 6 in Germany, Hornsea 2 in the UK and Kriegers Flak in Denmark
